Emily is nail art competition queen
A nail technician from Walsall is on an industry competition winning streak after receiving six medals in a row. Emily Sims entered Professional Beauty North in Manchester and came away with two bronze, two silver and a gold medal across a variety of nail technician and nail art categories.
Prior to this, she competed in Professional Beauty shows in Dublin and in Glasgow where she won a silver award.
The 34-year-old who finished her training at Walsall College this year says she is hungry for more success.
“I get such a buzz from competing,” said Emily. “It feels good to say I’m an award-winning artist.
“Industry competitions like Professional Beauty are an amazing way to get creative, show people what you can do and network. All this can have a huge impact on your career going forwards.”
Emily has excelled in manicure, gel polish and salon nail techniques. Medal success also come her way in Instanail and mixed media box art competition categories where she has wowed judges with nail art based on a carnival, 3D art and Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean.
Her carnival nails saw her create a Ferris wheel, helter skelter, strongman arm holding a weight, skittles and a balloon from acrylic.
“I’m thrilled to have achieved so much, although I’m keen to keep improving,” continued Emily.
“I take on judges’ feedback after every competition so I know to do next time around. It’s important to keep on practicing and exploring new ideas. I spend a lot of time doing this so that I can share my experiences with others and inspire them to get involved in competitions too.”
Emily’s next Professional Beauty competition is in London in March 2025. In the meantime, she will be returning to Walsall College in the new year to get experience of assessing current students as they carry out treatments on clients in their commercial Grad Salon.
