Why you need to code a career in the IT industry

As technology continues to power our everyday lives, we’re seeing a demand for people with technology skills to deliver on this need. According to research (Solving the UK Skills Shortage), more than 70% of technology employers are experiencing skills shortages in 2020. 

The IT industry is hugely diverse – there’s more to it than just fixing computers. You might be interested in keeping up with the latest cyber technology or enjoy seeing how games are programmed – these too make up the many fractions of the IT industry. The West Midlands is home to the largest number of digital and technology firms, outside of London.  It is one of the few industries that is always in need of talent – and with the right skills, a job opportunity could be waiting for you.

On the way to securing a lucrative career in IT, you’ll also learn other valuable skills that will prepare you for ‘working-life’. Industry placements can also help develop those crucial skills in communication, teamwork, time management and more- all of which are transferable to any industry.

You’ll never have to worry about losing interest in the IT industry, as it is constantly evolving. There are new programmes, coding languages and software updates that will keep you learning and developing your skills throughout your career. It’s also not uncommon for employers to invest in training and professional development. 

With the current skills shortage, those with specialist IT skills are highly in demand. As our desire for technology grows, so will the need for more IT professionals- and the more skills you have, the more valuable you become.
