Industry professional proves that a career in travel and aviation can include more than one destination

A former airport supervisor with 24 years of wider travel and tourism industry experience has reassured Walsall College students that there are many places to land rewarding roles in the sector. She also advised on ways to adapt your career in line with the current climate.
Suzanne Halil spoke to Level 3 Aviation Operations students about her varied industry experience in the UK and aboard. This included how she is keeping her career active during the Covid pandemic.
Her key roles have involved working as an airport supervisor in Cyprus for Thomson Holidays, now Tui and as a leisure commercial manager for Barrhead Travel. In addition, she has worked in sales, media liaison, contracting and product partnerships.
She is currently an industry speaker, sharing her career journey with students across the UK.
“The travel industry is by far the best industry in the world to work in, as it offers an array of opportunities!” said Suzanne.
“Unfortunately, it is one of the most affected industries, but is also the most resilient. It’s been a tough 12 months, however the industry is now heading into exciting times.
“People are desperate to get away and with lockdown easing, the industry has seen some light at the end of the tunnel with an up take in bookings since the announcement. There has also been an increase in the number of industry jobs being advertised, which is great news.”
