Spotlight on Talent – Scott Hayfield

Studied: Level 3 Team Leader Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard followed by Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship Standard while working as Inside Sales Manager at Fabory UK
Scott Hayfield joined Fabory UK in 2018, bringing experience as a laboratory technician, a sales professional and with key e-commerce experience. He received mentoring from the then Sales Manager and advice from other senior colleagues while developing his role within the business.
Even with these qualities and level of support, Scott was keen to study leadership and management qualifications. He has so far achieved Level 3 team leader/supervisor with his Level 5 well underway through Walsall College.
“I was always interested in exploring leadership and management principles in more detail,” said Scott. “While management responsibilities are in part, common sense, it is important to understand the impact of your approach and behaviour.
“My qualifications have helped me appreciate that I have been on the right track with everything I’ve done so far.”
Scott has held a variety of positions at Fabory UK. He began as a digital sales representative before progressing to key account management and trade sales. He later advanced to team leader and is now inside sales manager.
“My current role allows me to do my two favourite things – connecting with customers and providing product support to both colleagues and clients,” said Scott.
He continues to enjoy his studies and embed his learning into his day-to-day responsibilities.
“From a management perspective, it’s about knowing how to communicate effectively with your team, leading with conviction, and continuously applying what you learn.”
Through his qualifications which offer a blended learning format of online classes, self-study, and one-on-one support, Scott has seen first-hand the advantages of flexible learning.
“The support from the college sessions and the opportunity to study in my own time, at my own pace has been invaluable,” continued Scott.
Studying alongside other learners from different private and public sector backgrounds has proved useful too. Scott also networks regularly with a national group of professionals all from the fasteners industry.
“As you learn more and become more experienced, you realise what you’re capable of,” said Scott.
“Anyone can rise to the challenge of leadership, even when it feels daunting at first,” added Scott. “But with the right qualifications and mindset, it’s a lot easier to navigate any challenges and reflect on your achievements.”
