Spotlight on Talent : Anita Rani
Studied: Entry Level 1 and 2 ESOL
Progression: Entry Level 3 ESOL
Coming to college is helping Anita Rani discover her voice.
“I was shy when I first started my classes. I wouldn’t speak much at all,” said Anita.
Being an ESOL student has changed this. Having the chance to practice her English speaking, listening and writing skills has provided Anita with the confidence to get to know other people.
Although she admits she struggled with some of her classwork, she realised that the more she carried on with it, the more she would improve. Her family also helped make a difference.
“I’ve been practicing English with my daughter and son who are 8 and 7,” she said. “Seeing myself get better at speaking with them makes it more of an achievement. It feels special.”
In return, Anita’s family are now benefitting from her improved English. She is better able to help her husband run his business. Along with this, her English skills will enable her to take up other studies, either in beauty (something she studied in India) or childcare.
“Anything is possible now,” she said.
