Working it during musical theatre workshops
Acting students at Walsall College have been immersing themselves in the world of musical theatre after working with a youth theatre company.
Representatives from RicNic took Level 2, 3 and HNC students through their paces in order to prepare them to audition for an upcoming local show at Walsall Arena and to support them with the process of putting together a musical theatre production of their own.
Hannah Lindsey, West End performer from the London cast of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’, ran a musical workshop and shared insights with the students about theatre audition techniques.
Commenting on the activity, she said: “The students delivered some fantastic work and are a testament to the teaching staff and to the college. Thank you so much for collaborating with us and allowing us to come and run the sessions. I look forward to connecting again in the near future.”
RicNic director, Jessica Williams and writer, Erica Hartley also workshopped a brand, new musical ‘Where the bees fly’, premiering in Walsall in June. The students learnt a song and explored the audition script ahead of being invited to audition for the new show.
After the workshops, Erica added: “The students are exceptional. We were all so impressed with their work.”
The students are taking forward the skills developed during the workshops into two upcoming shows at The Venue at Wisemore Campus. Level 2 acting students are performing in Jamie while Level 3 year 1 students are performing in Blackout; a play about extremism. Both shows take place on Tuesday 25th April at 7.00pm.
