Pop-up barber shop is an enterprising opportunity
The lively and professional atmosphere of a barbers filled Walsall College’s atrium area when students ran a pop-up shop to promote their salon services. Six barbering students and three staff offered clients everything from shave consultations and haircuts to face massages and product advice.
“Our shop team relished the opportunity to engage with everyone and provide an excellent service,” said Curriculum Manager Jo Small. “This was the ideal way for them to meet new clients and get more practice for their forthcoming exams.”
She added: “The pop up shop also came to life thanks to a stream of clients, waiting customers and onlookers who helped to make things sociable and fun.”
The activity also promoted the Graduate Salon’s Barbershop Thursdays. From 4pm-7.30pm, customers can enjoy a gents cut and finish or a beard trim for only £2.00 as well as a traditional wet shave for just £3.00.
“I enjoyed the pop up shop experience,” said student, Samina Khanwal. “I’m not used to people watching us as we work so I did feel a little pressure but I know how to manage this now.”
Fellow student, Hollie Titley also said she benefitted from being involved. “The more opportunities I get to practice my skills, the better it is for me. It boosts my confidence even more.”
Both Samina and Hollie are hoping to become mobile hairdressers once their studies are complete, with Hollie also hoping to own her own salon in the future.
