Aaron named Aico Apprentice of the year finalist
An electrical installation apprentice training with Walsall College has proved himself as one of the brightest industry talents after becoming a finalist for the Aico Apprentice of the Year Award.
Aaron Ram was one of 12 selected nominees participating in the competition finals held in Birmingham. He received a fully loaded state-of-the-art toolkit for his achievements.
“The competition was a whole new experience for me as an apprentice,” said Aaron who works for Das EFx. “The assessment was a combination of things I knew how to do and other bits I hadn’t done before but I was determined to give everything a go. It’s helped make me better aware of my skills and knowledge and compare my abilities to other apprentices.
“I appreciated the opportunity to take part.”
The apprentices were challenged to complete both theory-based and practical tasks, including wiring a full alarm system and house coding Aico’s Ei3016 Optical Alarm with the Ei450 Alarm Controller.
This involved a series of electrical circuits, 2-way switches, metal trunking and conduit, which was designed to test their knowledge and skills. The apprentices who excelled at this task were then challenged to test the circuit.
Tony Boyle, National Sales Manager for Aico, commented: “We are delighted to be able to recognise the outstanding skills being developed by the installers of the future through our Apprentice of the Year award.
“The response and amount of applications have been truly overwhelming so we would like to thank everyone who has played a part. We have a long-established policy of developing young people within our sector through apprenticeship schemes and to be able to engage with some of the apprentices who form a key part of our supply chain is terrific.”
