BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music (Performing)
“As well as progressing academically, I am a vocalist, songwriter and musician in the UK and internationally. I independently released my debut original EP on iTunes and am currently in the process of recording with my new band.”
Rosanna’s dream of a career in music all started with a course in Music at Walsall College. She went on to get a first class degree in popular music and is now studying for her Masters alongside independently releasing her music on iTunes.
“I chose the Popular Music Performance (BTEC Extended Diploma) course not only because of Walsall College’s excellent facilities, but from meeting their equally as impressive members of staff. When I went for my interview (Marion, Dez, Ray and Rick) were fantastic, professional, and friendly and I was inspired by them as experienced musicians in their own right.
“My highest achievement during my time at the college has to be my result outcome. I received the highest result possible (Triple Distinction*) for my course. As a vocalist, I felt like I experienced and overcame a lot of barriers regarding stage craft and performance. The supportive, positive team effort and atmosphere encouraged by the music staff, was something I loved at Walsall College, and I have many fond memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life there.
“I went on to achieve a First Class Bachelor of Music with Honours Degree in Popular Music for which I received two Dean Prize Awards, including “Best Degree Classification in the Faculty of Arts” and “Best Degree Classification in Music and Music Technology Departments” alongside a 92% mark in my final dissertation. I am currently expecting to successfully graduate this September with a Masters degree.
“Studying at Walsall College gave me my first experience and taste of the music industry and made it an essentially positive experience. The tutors there helped hone and develop my natural talents, whilst simultaneously helping to improve my lesser natural abilities. The music industry is a very social place and therefore personality is key – the tutors knew this and promoted a positive but focused work ethic atmosphere when I studied with them, which appropriately prepared me for the future.”
