Spotlight on Talent – Charnelle Lemm
Studied: A Level Law, A Level Psychology and Level 3 Criminology
Progression: BSc Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University
Following her studies at Walsall College, Charnelle Lemm is keen to pursue a career in clinical psychology.
She believes her A Level pathway offered a combination of subjects that broadened her understanding of human behaviour, the principles of law and an awareness of criminological theories.
“It was fascinating to look at different psychological perspectives on human behaviour and all the research behind them,” said Charnelle. “Law takes a more structured, principled approach. Combining this with criminology meant there was a nice blend of knowledge for me to build up.”
While she enjoyed her studies, a college highlight was a trip to Disneyland Paris for Psychology LIVE! – a student event featuring industry speakers. This conference helped bring another dimension to her learning.
Once she has achieved her degree, Charnelle aims to work in clinical psychology in a healthcare setting before moving into the private sector.
She says she is grateful to the college for giving her opportunities to succeed.
“My lecturers were great,” said Charnelle. “I’d advise others to make use of their help if you need support.
“Downloading online materials like past exam papers is important too.”
Independence was another skill she gained.
“Being in college also allows you to find your own way while being supported,” added Charnelle. “This is another reason why I would recommend this pathway and college or others.”
