Flexible Distance Learning courses help Rebecca to enhance her career
Rebecca Bowater, a Quality Assurance and Improvement Development Co-ordinator, was keen to demonstrate her commitment to professional development in her role. However, with a busy working schedule, Rebecca had no time to attend a college or training centre. But Distance Learning courses at Walsall College helped Rebecca to study online in her free time, with one course enhancing her understanding of disabilities.

Rebecca’s role sees her review standards, policies and procedures to make sure that her organisation are complying with these industry rules.
As Equality and Diversity is one of the college’s core values, Rebecca wanted to enhance her knowledge in this area and undertook a relevant course at the College.
“The Equality and Diversity course included an overview of disabilities and how they affect those who live with certain conditions. I was interested to learn more, so I enrolled onto a number of other courses, including behaviour that challenges, mental health problems, children and young people’s mental health, Autism and learning difficulties.
The challenges people with disabilities encounter was one of the most invaluable things I learnt from these courses. It enabled me to look at life from another perspective, and enhanced my understanding of how others respond to stress, which in turn has helped me tailor my interpersonal skills based on the person’s needs.”
Rebecca also undertook courses in Team Leading and Management to expand her knowledge, and she was able to fit her studies around her work commitments.
“I am always looking for opportunities to study additional qualifications, and the Distance Learning courses gave me the chance to do this without having to attend College in the evenings.
The best thing about the Distance Learning courses was how flexible they were. I work full-time and it can be difficult to find extra time to study.
Distance Learning courses gave me the opportunity to study at home, in my own time. I received my feedback very quickly and the markers were very friendly and helpful. I’d recommend these courses to anyone looking for flexible, quality education.”
