Walsall FC Community Programme educates and develops workforce during lockdown
Walsall FC Community Programme has been focusing on developing and improving their staff during the Coronavirus pandemic.
While coaches have been unable to deliver sessions during the lockdown period, every member of staff has tackled online learning to be ready for the restart.
The latest of these distance learning courses are with Walsall College, and include a Level 2 in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health.
All WFCCP delivery staff are completing this course, which will help them prepare for the difficult transition children may face when returning to school in September.
Other Community Programme staff are completing different courses relevant to their role, including:
- Level 2 Understanding Nutrition and Health
- Level 2 Understanding Care and Management of Diabetes
- Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leading
- Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business Administration
The online learning also comes alongside Walsall FCCP’s community volunteering, such as creating activity packs for children, and delivering PPE.
Adam Davy, Community Director, said: “We have been really happy to work with Walsall College and access these courses that enable our staff to learn online during lockdown.
“We are always looking to grow and improve as a Community Programme, and the courses provided a great opportunity for staff to continue their professional development.
“Mental health, in particular, will be a key issue for many people in the coming months and it has been great to offer our coaches more knowledge on what is a complex and important issue.
Rachel Davies, Head of Foundation and Community Learning at Walsall College said: “It’s fantastic to see the club investing strongly in the skills of this staff team.
“Their new qualifications are a way for them to look to the future, identifying ways to adapt, develop and expand on their programmes, while meeting the specific needs of the different groups they work with.
“We are pleased we’re helping them continue making a difference across the communities they support.”
