Walsall College apprentices and employer partners ready to shine in National Apprenticeship Week 2026

Walsall College is celebrating Skills for Life and you’re invited!
An Apprenticeship and T Level Open Day is taking place on Thursday 12th February 4.00pm-7.00pm, as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2026.
Aspiring apprentices, whether in school or sixth form and adults currently looking for work are encouraged to attend and explore current and emerging vacancies available through the college. Employers will be onsite to share details of their work-based opportunities alongside college tutors, careers guidance, work experience and other student support teams.
Rachael Smith, Director of Apprenticeships and Work-based Learning at the college said: “Apprenticeships and T Levels mean different things to different people, whether that’s a sixth former/college leaver deciding between university and learning on-the-job, an adult looking to retrain or a parent/carer who needs confidence that their child is gaining the skills and qualifications for long-term career success.
“Our Open Day is designed to support all attendees, with expert staff and employers on hand to provide the information and advice needed to help people find the best pathway into their dream job.”

Prior to the Open Day, The Link based in the Saddlers Centre is hosting an All Ages Apprenticeship event in conjunction with Way to Work between 12.00pm and 2.00pm. Walk-ins are welcome or jobseeker claimants can book a slot to attend via their work coach.
National Apprenticeship Week celebrations are also taking place throughout the week in conjunction with local schools and for college students.
Year 11 students are attending an event where they can meet some apprentices and participate in an activity session. And students from a Birmingham-based school are visiting Construction College Midlands for a taster day.
Meanwhile, current students can visit pop-up information stands at the main Wisemore and Green Lane Campuses each day as well as attend Thursday’s Open Day.
Employer partners will be in the spotlight throughout the week too, with good news stories and thank-yous shared across the college’s social media channels and across other platforms.
Rachael Smith added: “This week is all about celebrating the people whose lives and businesses have been transformed through apprenticeships, and inspiring others to discover the real possibilities and impact of gaining skills for life. We’re excited to meet everyone and see how they’re choosing to kickstart their futures.”
