Top hairdresser shares his secrets to success

A top hairdresser from barbering product manufacturer Wahl visited Walsall College this week to deliver a talk to its Hairdressing and Barbering students.
As one of the most popular hairdressers within the industry, Simon Shaw is known for his innovative and fun approach to hair design, including pushing the boundaries of design and hair cutting.
Simon shared his journey with Level 2 students, from how he discovered his passion for hairdressing to becoming an Artistic Director for Wahl.
The presentation also covered the importance of remaining professional, and striving to deliver exceptional customer service regardless of any challenges a hairdresser or barber may face.
Simon has garnered high-profile recognition for his work. In 2014, his hugely successful wet goods range won the Hair Awards best range, and he also awarded the first ever Grand Master Barber award.
Nichola Arrowsmith, Barbering tutor at Walsall College, said: “It was a privilege to have Simon with us to share his secrets for long-term success. As a college, we aim to give out students as much exposure as possible to the industry, so they can develop the skills to build a successful career within the industry.
Having Simon with us was a way of showing our students what they could achieve after completing their qualification. This opportunity also enabled us to show students that success in the industry requires more than a qualification and technical skills – they would need self-motivation, passion and a professionalism.”
Walsall College offers Hairdressing and Barbering courses to school leavers and adults looking to start a career in the sector.
