Students spread their wings on BTEC Results Day
The vocational study route has created success for hundreds of Walsall College students. Here some of them talk about how they excelled through their qualifications.
Daina Daukste
Studied – Level 3 Business and Accounting
Progression – Accounting and Finance degree at Birmingham City University
“I preferred a BTEC to A Levels because the course was more practical and less exam focused. I found exams incredibly stressful, so I wouldn’t do my best in them. My BTEC course suited me more. I achieved a D*D*D*. I’m interested in going into auditing.”
Zareena Shakeel
Studied – Level 3 Applied Science
Progression – Midwifery degree at Birmingham City University
“My BTEC helped me get on to my dream university course. The practical lab work, including experiments bought the subject to life.
“Studying at college makes you more independent because you’re out of the comfort zone you’ve built up through school. This makes settling into uni easier to handle.”
Amaan Nawaz
Studied – Level 3 Business and Accounting
Progression – Apprenticeship at KPMG
“There is a perception with some parents and part of the community that BTECs won’t get you into university or a good job. That’s not true. My course gave me more opportunities and a work placement. These helped me realise there’s more than one way to get into accounting and build up a career.”
