School students speed-meet apprentices and T Level students during National Apprenticeship Week 2026
A speed-meet event at Walsall College saw 50 local school students introduced to a range of industry trainees while learning more about Apprenticeships and T Levels.
‘Your future, Their Reality’ was held during National Apprenticeship Week as an interactive advice and guidance event for Year 10 and 11 students.
Rachael Smith, Director of Apprenticeships and Work-based Learning at the college explained: “Years 10 and 11 are a ‘crunch time’ for students as they work towards GCSE and vocational qualifications while also thinking about their next steps into further study, training or employment. With so many pathways available, it can be lot for them and their families to take in.
“This is why we wanted to showcase Apprenticeships and T Levels through the voices of current learners, helping them feel inspired and informed about where their own ambitions could take them. This approach proved incredibly effective, with the school students particularly engaged by insights from childcare and engineering T Level students, as well as pharmacy technician, automotive and project management apprentices. They shared what a typical week looks like and what they enjoy most about their roles.
Rachael Smith added: “Feedback showed that these students left with greater clarity about the opportunities available and we hope this gives them the confidence to pursue the pathway and subject that’s right for them.”
Students from Barr Beacon School, Elmwood School, Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy, The Streetly Academy, Willenhall E-Act Academy took part in the event.
