MP visits College to meet students and exec team

Eddie Hughes MP met with students at Walsall College to talk about his role as a Member of Parliament.
The MP delivered the insightful talk at the College’s Wisemore Campus on Friday 28th September, giving students an overview of his role, and its importance in wider politics.
During the talk, Eddie explained how MPs fight for the interests of people living in their constituencies by attending debates, voting on legislation and attending meetings.
In addition, Eddie answered questions from students about issues that were important to them, including healthcare, employment, and police cuts.
Being one of the education providers within Eddie’s constituency, he was also keen to discuss ways he can support the college as its MP.
Principal and Chief Executive of Walsall College, Jatinder Sharma OBE, said: “We are honoured to welcome Eddie Hughes to the college, which gave us the opportunity to showcase our work within the FE sector.
The college prides itself delivering world class vocational training that equips students with the skills and knowledge employers are looking for. Our main aim is to give students a head start in the workplace or prepare them for university, and in doing so, create growth in our economy.”
Eddie Hughes MP commented, “My recent visit was an excellent opportunity to take questions from some well-informed and passionate students to discuss issues of concern to them.
From a personal point of view, it was great to see young people studying courses in Construction and the Built Environment; particularly as a member of the Chartered Institute of Building myself, it’s exciting to meet young people starting out on their journey to a career in construction.”
Walsall College offers a wide range of apprenticeships and courses for school leavers, adults and those looking to progress onto university. For more information about enrolling on a course at Walsall College, please call 01922 657000.
