Festival celebrates the fun of learning

The positive effects of learning and the importance of taking care of your mental and physical health were the key themes of a Festival of Learning event held at Walsall College’s Whitehall Campus.
Around 100 students studying ESOL, maths and IT courses took time out from regular lessons to celebrate their learning achievements so far with their teachers and classmates. Individuals and groups of students gave presentations about the value of communicating in English, as well as on mental health and healthy eating. They also took part in activities, competitions and workshops that gave them the chance to demonstrate a range of skills and discover more about different cultures from around the world.
Geetanjali Bhucher, Senior Curriculum Leader at the college said: “The Festival of Learning is held at the college every year as a way for students to appreciate how much they might have progressed and grown as a result of coming to college.
“By reflecting on all the skills and knowledge they have gained, they can see how learning has impacted on their confidence, their ability to find work and their opportunities to interact more with other people. We’re proud of all our students and hope they all continue believing in the power of learning.”
Following the presentations, workshops and activities, the festivalgoers enjoyed a lunch, with many of the dishes prepared and served by students.
