Christmas 2024 at Walsall College
Christmas sights, sounds, smells and tastes have swept through the college and into the community. Here’s a round-up of the many activities students and staff have been involved in this December:
Winter Wonderland
Wisemore Campus was a hive of festive fun, food and gifts. Enterprising students and external stallholders sold handmade jewellery, cards and crafts while hospitality students sold steak-filled Yorkshire puddings, pies and biscuits. Money was raised for Smile for Joel by travel and tourism students. Health and social care students raised £70 for Acorns Children’s Hospice £104 for YMCA – Walsall Housing through a raffle, tombola, and other games. Music students also took to the stage.
Seasonal Family Fun Day
Father Christmas was the VIP guest at Pleck Library Campus’s festive event, care of Bloxwich Rotary Club. Families took part in seasonal crafting activities, quizzes and puzzles. Over 100 children attended with over 45 families, taking a small gift away with them.
Bringing cheer to Children’s Wards
T Level Health students completing industry placements with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust showed their appreciation for the support by creating gift boxes for patients on the children’s wards at Walsall Manor and New Cross Hospitals.
Lecturer, Neelam Pallen said: “Having settled into their industry placements, our students were eager to give back to The Trust by spreading festive cheer. They were pleased to present staff with Christmas gifts boxes filled with treats, activities and games for the children’s ward patients to enjoy during their hospital stay.
“Their generosity and compassion are testament to the outstanding healthcare professionals they aspire to become.”
Jumpers and joy
Green Lane Campus students and staff swapped their overalls for jumpers and downed tools to enjoy pizza, bingo and a quiz, raising money £283 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.
