Christmas 2023 at Walsall College
Festive cheer and fundraiser fever have swept through Walsall College and across the local community.
Here’s a round-up of the many activities students and staff have been involved in this December:
Winter Wonderland
A festive market saw enterprising students join local businesses and community organisations in selling cards, decorations and jewellery.
£846.00 was raised for Smile for Joel through donations and raffle tickets.
Health and social care hosts with the most-est
Party planning is a new skill gained by health and social students with Hilton Rose Care Home and Afro Caribbean Community Association enjoying their events.
The care home residents were served lunch by the students, played bingo and won raffle prizes.
Day visitors to the Community Association also enjoyed a day of festivities. Hair and beauty students hosted a pampering session. After lunch was served, the health and social care students held a bingo session, followed by a carol singalong.
Pass the (party) parcel
Little Professors Nursery children were the VIP guests at a Christmas party hosted on campus by early years students. Seasonal storytelling, games and party bags kept the children fully entertained and in the festive spirit.
Jumpers and joy
A ‘Christmas Cheer’ campaign organised by Inclusive Support Specialist Mentors saw college-wide staff donate chocolate, sweets and toiletries included in gift packs for students in need.
Christmas jumpers were worn to help promote their activity.
Community learning for all the family
The college’s adult and community learning team welcomed 35 families to an event at Pleck Library featuring Santa, festive arts and crafts such as card making, plus a mini disco and elf dance-based workout. Items left over from the event were donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice.
A wreath making workshop also took place with residents at Watmos Community Homes and 40 of the college’s part-time learners attended Walsall Arena’s Christmas show.
First fundraiser for newly extended Green Lane Campus
The campus’s new atrium held its debut event in aid of Save the Children. Pizza was served, in addition to bingo, a quiz and raffle being held. £254.01 was raised.
