Students experience the joy of gift giving to hospital patients
A group of students are definitely on Santa’s good list. They have been working together to bring some festive cheer to young patients at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust facing the prospect of Christmas in hospital.
The Law, Criminology and Psychology students from Walsall College set up a fundraiser by creating a JustGiving page and hosting a staff raffle.
In just three weeks, they raised an incredible total of £522. With this money, they bought presents, toys and activities to accommodate all ages from babies to teenagers. These were then handed them over to Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishes charity to distribute.
They all said: “It felt very fulfilling to be able to do this. We wanted to make a difference to the children who will be in hospital during Christmas time.
“Our family and friends were also really proud of what we were able to achieve and have been super supportive. This was our first time fundraising. It is something we will definitely want to do again.”
Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager at Walsall Healthcare said: “A massive thank you to Charnelle, Dumisile, Elizabeth, Mollie, Oliwia and Zakona for all their hard work to raise money and buy presents for our young patients. As we know, the hospital is the last place people want to be in during Christmas, especially for children. To be able to hand these out will make such a difference to their experience. e are so appreciative.”
