Spotlight on Talent : Lucy Moseley

Studied: Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism
Progression: Degree in Visitor Attractions and Resort Management at Staffordshire University

Like many of her classmates, Lucy Moseley enrolled on a travel and tourism course with the idea of seeing the world.  Her ambitions have since moved on from holiday repping and events management to a dream career as a manager in a theme park.

“I want to be in a role where I’m always on the go and something is happening everywhere I look,” explained Lucy.  “These surroundings give me an adrenalin rush.”

Lucy found the trips she and her classmates made to various tourist attractions enlightening.  These include Ash End Farm in Tamworth and LEGOLAND Birmingham.

They spent a week in New York too.

Gina Turner, one of Lucy’s lecturers was another source of inspiration.  With her help, Lucy discovered her perfect university course.

“As part of my degree, I’ll get to complete a placement at Alton Towers,” said Lucy.  “I’m excited by this.

Lucy also enjoyed her college course modules on marketing and on being a holiday rep.  The latter involved her entire class hosting a party for the children in the college nursery.

A module on people development also saw Lucy delivering a mini sports day team building activity.

“Events give you the chance to see all your hard work pay off.  You create great memories for other people and recognition for the business or cause you’re representing,” said Lucy.

Another turning point has been landing a job at Birmingham’s Sea Life Centre.  Lucy noticed jobs being advertised during the college’s visit to LEGOLAND Birmingham,

She had taken part in mock interviews with Jet2.com at the college beforehand.  Using feedback gained here, she was offered a role at the Sea Life Centre in February 2020.

“Working here with the events photo team has helped build my confidence,” added Lucy.  “I’ve had more experience of talking to different people.

“Not only that, it’s an environment which is a constant source of fun.  It’s exactly the kind of place I want to represent in the future.”

On completing her degree, Lucy is still hoping to see the world.  Although now, it will be through the eyes of the various theme parks she is aiming to work at, including Disneyland Florida.
