As employers and businesses count the cost of COVID-19 and the long-term economic effects of 2020, it is easy to feel pessimistic about our economic outlook.
Walsall – already an area of economic and social deprivation, with a low-skills and low income economy – is likely to be hit especially hard by lockdown job losses in retail and hospitality. Whilst other sectors – such as healthcare and manufacturing – face skills shortages that collectively cost the UK £6.6b a year.
So it is with optimism and enthusiasm that Walsall College welcomed the Government white paper in Jan 2021 – Skills for Jobs: Lifelong Opportunities for Learning and Growth.
This event will explore the different avenues the College is taking in making sure we are upskilling workers of every age and stage. In meeting the agenda set out in the white paper.
Topics will include the Lifetime Skills Guarantee offer, Free functional skills and IT classes for employees, Apprenticeships/work-based training and Higher Education opportunities. We aim to educate employers that investing time into the workforce will bring great benefits that includes maintaining loyalty, increasing job satisfaction and nurturing a productive workforce.
Businesses will be able to find out about our training schemes to meet their workforce needs. We can offer bespoke training packages that includes classroom and/or remote learning.
