The UK’s leading paint brand, Dulux, has over 1,200 colours and products stocked in all the major DIY retailers across the UK, including Homebase, Wickes, B&Q, Wilkinson, Travis Perkins and Brewers.
Following an intense five-day course at the college’s Green Lane Campus, eleven Dulux sales representative and managers were rewarded with a City and Guilds Level 1 qualification. The course covered various stages of painting and decorating including how to prepare different surfaces, techniques in applying paint and wallpaper and how to choose the right tools and products for the job.
The bespoke programme was developed last year in conjunction with MidKent College, to specifically meet objectives outlined by Dulux for one of its major customers with the use of Dulux products.
Steve Ashfield, Sales Development Manager at Dulux said: “We have a very robust internal training programme at Dulux, but are committed to cementing our position as the leading paint brand. We therefore took the decision to enrol our sales teams on the City and Guilds course so they could gain a nationally recognised and credible endorsement for their expertise.
“Doing the course at Walsall College has enabled our staff to develop a standardised set of skills to a professional level, and ensure they are equipped with the right knowledge to advise our stockists of the key benefits our products will provide the end customers.”
Regional Sales Manager at Dulux, Steve Guice commented: “I’ve picked up some great tips on the course and now have a better understanding of our products and how they are used in real situations. I really enjoyed the course as it was a mixture of classroom lessons and applying this new knowledge on practical tasks. I’m looking forward to passing these skills onto retail and store training staff to help them promote our products.”
