It’s lunchtime.  Where are you eating?

Alice returns with another blog about what kind of food you end up eating during your breaks at Walsall College. This blog is perfect for either current students curious on where they’re skipping out on eating or upcoming students who want to know more about what’s out there.

Welcome back to college. You’ve either completed your first session or two of the day, or you’re grabbing something before your timetable starts.   Whichever it is, there is no doubt that lunch as a Walsall College student is one of the things you’ll remember most. There’s so much on offer within the college and in Walsall itself!  This blog will pick apart these options and give you some tricks and tips.

Quick Bites

If you’re going to play your lunchtime safe, especially if it’s a shorter one, your best bet is something from college itself or Tesco. If you’re out of class before 12pm, definitely get something from the college itself because it’ll be fresh and very hot.

As a side bar mention about the college’s offerings, don’t count out The Littleton. The Littleton is a perfect option if you don’t want to wait in a queue , prefer to get away from campus, but don’t want to go into town.  It’s also perfect for any kind of special occasion you have going on.

If you’re out at 12pm or after and the queues in college are a little long, Tesco is your best friend. For myself it’s the boring, but safe choice, of a Ham and Cheese sub as the main in the Tesco meal deal. Then fruit or crisps depending on how healthy I want to be. Of course, there are the other supermarkets like the Co-Op in Walsall which offer their own meal deals.

The most forgotten quick bite is actually something from home. Also the cheapest if you’re trying to save a penny or two.

Fast Food Frenzy

The option that almost everyone will default to until they start to notice they’re gaining a few lbs has to be all the fast-food places in Walsall. Of course, you’ve got the big McDonalds right by Wisemore campus, literally impossible to miss.

Then of course, there’s KFC, the Nando’s, and Burger King, your fast-food chain restaurant options. If you’ve got the time in your break and you’re prepared for the calories, lunch at one of these places, Covid restrictions permitting, is a great idea and a good way to pass the time.

Personal Favourites

With Tesco, the college itself, and the fast-food places covered… it’s time for my personal favourites.

Sandwich or baked good heaven. Costa, Starbucks, Greggs and Subway all offer amazing sandwiches and baked goods. In the summer, there’s nothing better than a cold drink from Starbucks and a sandwich, or maybe a cake.

I remember going to Starbucks to get an iced latte, then spending the rest of my Friday lunchtime clothes shopping. It was always a power move to rock up to the last class of the day with bags of whatever I’d bought. In the winter, Costa’s toasties reigned supreme for me though.
