Moi elevates his aspiring stylist status
A Walsall College student and aspiring professional hair stylist is achieving industry recognition through a social media mention in a student magazine and by winning an industry competition.
Moi Reyes’ stylist work has appeared on Concept Hair’s online platforms and he has won Pivot Point UK’s Curly hair competition. His prize is a mannequin worth around £160.00.
“When Pivot Point called to tell me the news, it was a ‘hands in the air’ moment,” said Moi. “It means a lot to be acknowledged for what I’m trying to achieve as a professional stylist. Being represented is important for me too as a 30-year-old male, originally from the Philippines who is retraining after a career in customer service.
“I feel there’s a market for someone like me who can attract clients from this ethnic background.”
Despite only starting his training in September, Moi already has a small client base for his styling services. He has a styling chair, mirror and a selection of hair products at his home and is enjoying specialising in finished curly hair looks.
“The college has done so much to support me,” Moi continued. “Lecturers recognise how passionate I am about my dreams. They make sure to adapt the industry knowledge they share to fit my ambitions while making sure I get a full grounding in all the skills I need.
“They also encourage everyone to be proactive online to help build a name for themselves. That’s why I put myself forward for Pivot Point’s competition. This is opening so many doors for me now that I’m really excited about my future.”
