Maria’s French commission
A textile artist and art and design lecturer’s latest commission involves decorating the walls of a Paris hotel. Maria Wigley will produce 30 original pieces of art which will be installed in April 2020.
The collection was commissioned by the art gallery, Amélie du Chalard, Paris. It is a collaboration between Maria, who is a fabric and stitch specialist, the gallery and architect, Charles Zana.
Commenting on her success, Maria said: “This has been an ambitious challenge for me and I have very much enjoyed completing the work. The brief was to create artwork that combined stitched text, photography and fabric manipulation using black and white mediums.”
The artwork Maria submits will feature in a book created by the gallery to document all the work for the hotel.
This is the second of Maria’s major art achievements this year. Some of her artwork and an artist profile have been included in a new book, Thread Contemporary Embroidered Art complied by Charlotte Vannier and published by Thames and Hudson.
Her work has also sold at many shops and art fairs and been included in many exhibitions across the UK. And she has project managed major creative events and undertaken a number of private and commercial commissions, both in the UK and overseas.
