A closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system is in operation at Walsall College.
This system, known as the ‘Walsall College CCTV System’, comprises of a number of cameras installed at strategic locations. Cameras are located at both the Wisemore and Green Lane Campuses. As required by the CCTV Code of Practice Revised Issue 2008, signs are placed at the entrance and around College campuses informing you that you are entering a CCTV zone.
Purpose of the system
The system has been installed with the primary purpose of protecting Walsall College’s premises and to ensure the safety of all Walsall College’s staff, students and visitors consistent with respect for the individuals’ privacy. These purposes will be achieved by monitoring the system to:
- Reduce fear of crime and provide reassurance
- Provide a safe environment for people to work, study and visit
- Detect, deter and prevent crime.

CCTV and the Data Protection Act 1998
CCTV images, if they show a recognisable person, are covered by the Data Protection Act. The Walsall College Data Protection Policy can be found on the Data Protection webpage, SharePoint page or is available from the Data Protection Team.
