There’s a wide range of funding and financial support for employers to assist with training apprentices. At Walsall College, we help businesses to access these grants, obtain funding and deliver expert training.
Additional payments for apprentices
Employers are entitled to an additional £1,000 incentive payment for supporting a 16 to 18-year-old, who’s taking part in an apprenticeship framework or standard, as well as a 19 to 24-year-old formerly in care or who has an education and health care plan (EHCP).
Evidence of an original signed declaration by the apprentice to confirm that they are a care leaver or a an EHCP is required in order to claim this incentive.
A substantial payment of up to £6,000 to recruit a young person as an apprentice is available for employers through Walsall Works – a multi-million pound investment by Walsall Council, who have a growing focus on sustainable employment and growth amongst Walsall-based businesses.
Employers can receive the following incentives:
- £3,000 maximum for employers taking on a young person aged 16 or 17 at a rate of £4.20 ph.
- £4,500 maximum for employers taking on a young person aged between 18 and 20 at a rate of £5.90 ph.
- £6,000 maximum for employers taking on a young person aged between 21 and 24 at a rate of £7.38 ph.
