Access to HE
If you’d like to go to university but don’t have a Level 3 qualification or have been out of education for a while, an Access to Higher Education (HE) course at Walsall College could be your perfect next step.
These one-year courses are designed to prepare you for university by developing your academic and study skills. You’ll build confidence in areas such as essay writing, research, presentations, IT, and problem-solving. Each course is designed to give you the knowledge and qualifications you need for your chosen subject at degree level.
Our Access to HE Diplomas are recognised by universities across the UK and are a great option if you're over 19 and want to return to learning.
Courses starting from September 2025
Our access courses are free under the governments Free Course for Jobs initiative.
*Subject to eligibility
**this course is not part of the FCFJ initiative
If you don't meet the eligibility criteria for Free Courses for Jobs, you could take advantage of an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of an Access to HE Diploma. If you go on to successfully complete a Higher Education course you don't have to pay back your Access loan.
Want to know more about our Access to HE courses before applying?
We’re hosting a series of information sessions both online (via Microsoft Teams) and in person at our Wisemore Campus — and you’re invited!
These sessions are the perfect opportunity to explore your options, ask questions, and meet the tutors who will support you on your journey to university.
