Students showcase their talents at art exhibition

  • Categories 16-19s, Art & Design and Photography, Beauty, Fashion, Graphic Design, Hairdressing & Barbering, News & Blog
  • Date 14th June 2018

The creativity and innovation of Art & Design, Photography and Graphic Design students was exhibited at Walsall College’s Art and Design Summer Show, which launched at Wisemore Campus on Tuesday 12th June.

The Art and Design Summer Show celebrates the work of learners studying a wide range of Creative Arts courses from Level 2 to Degree Level 6, and continues a long tradition of exhibitions at the college.

The exhibition, which was open to the general public from 13-19 June, featured a wide range of artwork from a variety of specialist areas, including Photography, Illustration, Graphic Design, Fashion & Textiles, Fine Art, 3D Design and Printmaking.

In addition, a gallery of students’ work was also on display at the Walsall Old Square, giving shoppers a chance to see the imaginative exhibitions from talented Level 2 Art & Design and Level 3 Photography students.

As part of the Creative Festival, Walsall College will also be hosting its annual Catwalk Show on Friday 22nd June, where Fashion students will showcase their range of stunning collections.

The catwalk models will have their hair, make-up and body art styled by Hair and Beauty students, while the evening will also be hosted by Performing Arts students, include live performances by Music and Dance students and filmed by Media students.

Iconic characters such as Harley Quinn and Christopher Robin will be explored at the Mockigbird Cinema on 25th June, where Media students at Walsall College will be holding a premier of their final end of year projects.

Films produced by Level 3 students explores the theme of ‘This is Me’, an introspective collection of experimental shorts that looks at the complexities within the filmmakers’ characters.

For those who are cartoon fans, Higher education students have produced a series of experimental films based on the theme of ‘Animated to Alive’. Featuring a wide range of famous names, the films explores the traits and imperfections of animated characters that students have chosen to bring to life.

Alan Tyler, Curriculum Manager for Art and Design at Walsall College said: “We would like to invite people to join us in celebrating the achievements and high standards of work that our students produce. They will soon be moving forward to apply their knowledge and skills on higher level courses and in the creative industries or in to employment, so this is a great chance to showcase and celebrate their talent.

“Our programmes have challenged our students to direct their creative energies towards independence, originality and innovation. Students will shortly be progressing to higher levels of study, employment or training, and the showcased work reflects the diversity of their interests, including Fine Art, Photography, Textiles, Fashion, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Printmaking and 3D Design.

“It’s an exciting and lively exhibition, showcasing a diverse range of disciplines and a fitting culmination to the hard work, energy and commitment from our students and staff.”
