A make-up artist, whose 20 year experience includes working for international bridal magazine ‘Asiana Wedding’, visited Walsall College to deliver a professional masterclass on perfecting the dramatic eye look.
Ravita Pannu showed Level 2 Media Hair and Make-up students some of the latest beauty trends, from contouring to strobing, which are used by many professionals in the industry to create a range of make-up looks from natural to more dramatic styles.
The Birmingham-based make-up artist, who is self-employed, also spoke to students about why she decided to pursue a career in the hair and beauty industry.
She also spoke about how she successful developed an esteemed reputation as a freelancer in the sector, and answered student questions on a number of topics, including choosing products, pricing and marketing strategies.
Ravita’s senior hair stylist Reena Sangar delivered another demonstration for the College’s Level 3 Hairdressing students on creating the perfect bridal up-do.
Reena showed students how to create a stunning beehive look using a range of techniques, including blow drying, curling hair with a flat iron, setting hair, directing and pinning hair and creating volume.
Students were later tasked to recreate the make-up and hairstyles on one another, using their creativity to make the looks their own.
Walsall College’s Curriculum Manager for Hair and Beauty, Joanne Small said: “As part of students’ study programme, we aim to give them as much exposure as possible to the industry. The purpose of these masterclasses is to inform students of the various career options available to them once they achieve their qualifications.
“The students were very inspired by Ravita and Reena’s career history, and they gained some valuable advice that they can apply to their own futures.”
