Hairdressing Apprentice Makes the Final Cut
A Hairdressing apprentice at Walsall College is celebrating after making it through to the national final of a prestigious competition, run by one of the world’s largest cosmetics suppliers.
April Morgan, 18, an Advanced Level 3 Hairdressing apprentice at Boyd’s Hair Design in Cannock impressed judges in the regional heat of the Wella Xposure competition on 26th April and is amongst only 20 students across the UK chosen for the grand final in London.
30 students and apprentices from colleges across the Midlands competed in the regional where they were challenged to recreate their commercial cut and colour from the previous photographic heat, live on models.
The talented apprentice will now travel to Wella World Studio in London on 5th June where she will pit their skills against the winners of the other regional heats to be crowned Britain’s top student hairdresser. The winner will walk away with £1,000 worth of training vouchers, a toolkit worth £500, the chance to shadow a top industry professional and educational support for a year.

April said: “I’m really excited to have made it to the final. The regional heat was very competitive but I feel all the experience I’ve gained at work really helped me. I’m looking forward to competing on the day. I’m also very grateful that the college and my employer encouraged me to enter this competition as it is a massive boost to my career.”
