The renovation is part of the college’s increasing links with airlines, who are taking on more of its students to work as air stewards and hostesses for their brand.
Over the last two years, the college has developed courses in aviation and cabin crew training. Its airline course, which was launched last year, attracted training opportunities from huge names including Virgin Atlantic, Jet2 and British Airways.
The training opportunities have opened doors for some of the college’s students, including Sophie Adams who gained a full-time job for a commercial airline.
“Someone from the airline visited the college last year to do some training with us. It was a great experience as it really helped me develop my skills further and show what I have learned to someone in the industry,” said Sophie.
Impressed by Sophie and her peers’ skills, the representative invited all of the students to an interview day, which included a full-day assessment. Following the assessment, Sophie was offered a job with the airline.
“I was really excited to be offered a job! This course has been extremely useful in developing the skills I needed to get into the airline industry.”
David Higgins, Curriculum Manager for Travel at Walsall College, said: “We’re really amazed with what our students have achieved over the last two years, with many going onto work for large airline companies.
We’re dedicated to the development of our resources in line with industry standards. To date, a travel zone has been created, which includes flight seats to enable students to hone their skills further, especially in evacuations and providing excellent customer service to passengers. We will continue to develop our facilities and contacts within the travel industry to ensure our students have the right skills and knowledge to enable them to be first in line for future job opportunities."
Walsall College offer a number of Level 1 and 2 courses in Travel and Tourism. To find out more, take a look at our V6 Couse Guide, which can be picked up from either of the college’s campuses or downloaded online.
