Success celebrated at V6 Student Awards

Walsall College held its prestigious V6 Awards Dinner on Tuesday 3rd July, to celebrate the success and achievements of the college’s V6 students and apprentices.

During the evening, 22 outstanding students were presented with Student of the Year Awards for achieving excellence in their area of study, along with an additional award for overall V6 Student of the Year, which went to Professional Cookery student Bradley Tinsley.

16-year-old Bradley was commended by his tutor for remaining committed to his studies and career goals despite having underlying health conditions.

His tutor Lynn Sargeson said: “Bradley has performed consistently throughout the year. He regularly attends “The Hub”, where he not only undertaken a work placement, but has also secured paid employment. Bradley deserves this award for the way he conducts himself within the department, his drive, commitment and determination.”

The awards ceremony also included a pre-drinks reception at the college’s Littleton Restaurant and a four-course meal.

Guest speaker for the evening was Andrew Parsons, Chief Super Intendant of the West Midlands Police.

Andrew delivered an inspirational speech that highlighted how the aspirations of young people were limited due to the lack of exposure to the fantastic outcomes that Higher Education can offer.

Walsall College’s V6 is a sixth form with a difference, providing students with the vocational training to become Walsall College Graduates; skilled, professional and enterprising.

Jatinder Sharma OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Walsall College said: “The V6 Awards Dinner was an ideal opportunity for Walsall College to celebrate the fantastic achievements our students have achieved on vocational courses. These exceptional students are real life examples of students who have excelled through vocational learning and are a real inspiration to others.”
