Every year, hundreds of students take the affordable route of studying a HI:ED course to fulfil their ambitions.
James Prestage studied for a degree with Walsall College. Now he’s working as a Brand and Design Advisor at international law firm, Kennedy’s.
The marketer’s journey began after completing a HNC in Graphic Design at Walsall College. He was ready to take on a HND degree at university. But three weeks in, he missed the supportive environment offered by the College and chose to return.
“The tutors here are very passionate about graphics and I always found the lessons really interesting. Tutors were also always on hand to help outside of lessons if I needed them and their knowledge about the industry is immense.”
James studied a HND Top-Up degree at Walsall College, which is the equivalent to a full BA honours qualification. And it was a move that paid off.
“The course itself was very comprehensive and gave me a good understanding and knowledge of the skills needed to enter the industry. After completing my HND, I started a career as a junior designer at Arup, one of the top engineering companies in the world.
I then moved into the legal sector at law firm Trowers and Hamlins, where I was hired to help build their visual brand, as well as their internal design offering and also managed a regional marketing team.”
Due to his impressive career history, James is now part of the business development team as a Brand and Design Advisor at law firm Kennedy’s.
“The best part of my job is creating refreshing and reinvigorating designs that the whole firm can get behind and developing brands that will be seen by millions of people around the world.”
“I feel I am where I am today because I was empowered by my tutors to get the most out of my education. They helped me to push myself further creatively, as they enabled me to be more analytical.”
In the current economic climate, studying higher education courses at college is increasingly popular, giving students a more cost effective route to achieving a university degree.
Walsall College offer HNC, HND and Top-up degrees in a range of programmes including Business Studies, Computing, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Photography.
James did it. You can do it too. Come to our Open Day on Saturday 20th January from 10am to 2pm to find out more about our Higher Education courses.
