Starting in September, the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship course is aimed at those charged with taking responsibility for people, projects and services to deliver long term success for their organisation.
Through taught techniques, coaching and on-the-job training, the degree provides aspiring managers with the knowledge and skills required to become more effective in their current or future roles.
The Chartered Degree Apprenticeship is suitable for employees working in the private or public sector, as well as those in voluntary sector organisations, SMEs or larger corporations. It complements a number of management roles, including Manager, Senior Manager, Head of Department and Operations Manager.
Successful apprentices will have the opportunity to apply for professional recognition as Chartered Managers and Members of the Chartered Management Institute, or as a member of the Institute for Leadership & Management or other relevant professional body.
Degree Apprenticeships combine higher education study and work-based learning to enable apprentices to achieve a higher level award, such as a Foundation, Bachelor or Masters Qualification. Co-designed by training providers and employers, Degree Apprenticeships help apprentices develop their careers by equipping them with the skills employers require to grow their business.
The new degree apprenticeship offer is based on the latest standards, which are eligible for Apprenticeship Levy funding, enabling organisations that are Levy payers to address one of the key issues faced by many businesses - the lack of skilled, experienced junior and middle managers.
Scott Andrews, Programme Leader at the University of Worcester, said: “The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship is a new opportunity to participate in a degree level programme for apprentices in leadership and management. This degree enables middle managers to upskill within their organisation without having to leave the job, and at the same time enables them to achieve a degree, a professional diploma and Chartered Manager status.
The University of Worcester is very pleased to be working in partnership with Walsall College to deliver this valuable learning opportunity and we look forward to working with businesses and organisations across the region to provide leadership and management programmes that meet the genuine needs of today’s employer.”
Jatinder Sharma OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Walsall College, said: “A degree level apprenticeship provides an ideal stepping stone to those looking to progress further.
Our Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship was developed to enable professional managers to enhance all aspects of their management and leadership skills, as well as self-awareness and behaviours. These include strategic decision making, building and leading teams, clear communication, fostering inclusive and ethical cultures, financial management and many more.
“It will enable apprentices to develop the higher level skills that will broaden their career prospects, however, it is also a viable programme for employers who want to upskill existing staff and support them in gaining a broader overview of their business.”
