Deb Underhill, a HNC Level 4 Fashion & Textiles student celebrated her success this week after beating over 200 entries from across the region to be crowned Young Kings’ “Guest Designer 2017”.
Deb’s design impressed local designers and business entrepreneurs, Jamel Aransevia and Chinny Chan, who founded Young Kings in 2012, and have since enjoyed 5 years of business success, becoming one of the most popular brands in the UK.
The competition invited fashion students from across the West Midlands to compete for the opportunity to have their designs manufactured and available for sale worldwide.
Jamel and Chinny both expressed their desire to nurture upcoming talent, commenting; “We are both born and bred from the Black Country, are keen to encourage and showcase the massive amount of talent here. We’re hoping that this competition will give Deb a platform to showcase her talent not only to the West Midlands and UK, but also across the world, as we ship out international orders on a daily basis.”
The winning design was chosen due to its “unique versatility in style” and “simplistic elegance”.
Deb’s design was sent immediately to the brand’s production team and a sample was delivered to the college for her to see last week.
The dress will now be appear alongside Young Kings’ Spring Fashion collection later this year and Deb will join the team in their upcoming Spring photo shoot as Assistant Creative Director.
