The store, L2 Pop manned by students and staff, opened to the public on Saturday 13th December and has been transformed into a gift store after talented Art and Design students used their typography skills to create a range of products including signs and bags.
The store is only open until 6pm on Wednesday 17th December, so shoppers need to hurry if they want to get their hands on unique gifts for Christmas.
Walsall College Community Development Officer, Jane de Weijer, said: “We are delighted to have opened a pop-up shop which showcases the students’ creativity, whilst also giving them the opportunity to develop enterprise skills.
“We are also looking at helping more students across the college to utilise the store and have been working closely with the town centre management team and members of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, to create a series of ‘Not on the High Street’ style shops unique to Walsall.”
The students’ idea to open a pop up store was made a reality through the college’s Enterprise Hub, a new scheme which helps students set up their own social enterprise projects in the local community.
The college was one of 22 colleges in the country and the only one in the West Midlands to receive funding worth £15,000 last year after a successful application to the FE Pioneer fund and UnLtd, the leading provider of support to social entrepreneurs in the UK.
