Colleges launch ESOL pilot to support employees at work

In partnership with local colleges in the area, Walsall College are launching a new project to support speakers of other languages so employers can access the right skills for their business.

The Midlands Engine Partnership aims to test new innovative ways of delivering improved English language skills that lead to better access to work and career prospects for the individual, along with enhanced productivity outcomes for employers.

The partnership is currently looking for 50 people to take part in the project, which will see participants undertake a series of qualifications alongside their job role.

The Midlands Engine is a coalition of Councils, Combined Authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP), Universities and businesses across the region, who are actively working with the Government to present the Midlands as a competitive and compelling area that is attractive to people in the UK and abroad.

The College will be delivering the project in partnership with other members of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Further Education and Skills Productivity Group (FESPG), including Dudley College, City of Wolverhampton College and Wolverhampton Adult Education.

Geetanjali Bhucher, Curriculum Manager for ESOL at Walsall College, said: “We’re proud to deliver this innovative pilot this year. The College has extensive experience in delivering ESOL from a range of venues for over the last ten years, supported by our highly experienced staff.

The pilot is an exciting opportunity for employers to address any language barriers they may experience within their workforce, whilst ensuring that staff reach their full potential by enhancing their communication skills.”

If you have members of your workforce you would like to put forward for the pilot, please contact Geetanjali Bhucher on 01922 688533.
