The Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP) has been published by the Department for Education (DfE) and Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and only includes providers that will be eligible to deliver apprenticeships from May 2017.
To be included on the register, colleges and private training providers underwent a rigorous assessment process to make sure they meet apprenticeship quality expectations. Over 2000 applications were submitted and only 1,708 were successful.
The register is a crucial milestone in delivering the government’s wider reforms to make apprenticeships more rigorous, better structured, independently assessed and more clearly aligned to the needs of employers.
The reforms include the introduction of the apprenticeship levy from 6 April 2017, which will require employers with a wage bill of over £3 million a year to pay 0.5% of their wage bill, to invest in apprenticeships.
James Norris, Assistant Principal for Commercial Development at Walsall College, commented: “We are delighted to have been included on this national register in recognition of our apprenticeship provision.
“We are committed to delivering outstanding training tailored to meet employers’ needs and enable individuals to progress in their careers. We work in close partnership with businesses and apprentices, to match the right candidates with the right vacancies and help ensure they go on to become valued employees within the organisations.”
Walsall College is inviting employers of all sizes to a free workshop it is holding to get them up to speed with all the facts surrounding the apprenticeship levy.
The event will take place on Monday 3 April, 8am - 10am at the college’s £11m business and sports Hub, and will help employers to gain a better understanding of how the levy will affect them, who will have to pay and how they could benefit from it.
Walsall College currently offers over 40 apprenticeship frameworks and has over 1300 apprentices enrolled on its programmes from level 2 (equivalent to GCSE) to level 5 (equivalent to HND) in addition to a traineeship offer.
