College commended for golden touch across Walsall communities

Walsall College has struck gold after receiving a Walsall Works Award from Walsall Council. The Gold Partner Award recognises their significant social impact on local jobseekers, along with their support for businesses recruiting and training staff.

The judging panel remarked that ‘Walsall Council have always had a strong working relationship with Walsall College and it is great to be able to acknowledge the impact that they make not just as an educator, but also as an employer.’.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Deputy Leader of Walsall Council presented the award.

James Norris, Assistant Principal for Commercial Development, said: “We’re grateful to Walsall Works for championing our initiatives to help jobseekers secure meaningful employment. Driving prosperity through Walsall is of the utmost importance to us - naturally we need people with the right skills to action this and we’re proud to lead the way with this agenda.

“Walsall Works also commended us for promoting an ethos of lifelong learning and professional development. This is something we encourage in every learner whether an apprentice, full-time student or someone in the workplace – including with our own staff. The impact on individuals and the wider community can be seen far and wide.”

The 2019 Walsall Works Partner Awards aim to recognise the positive difference that organisations make to people and communities. Gold partners have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to creating social value and have excelled in helping local communities and the borough’s most vulnerable groups to participate and prosper in a range of activities.

Walsall College works with over 1,000 employers to provide apprenticeships, industry placements, workforce development and pre-employment training across Walsall and the wider region. It is also the biggest provider of skills for school leavers in the area.
