I am an Educational Interpreter for the college, which involves interpreting for Deaf students, Deaf staff, Tutors and any other personnel in the college. The nature of my role takes me into nearly every faculty within the college, basically which ever course a Deaf learner wishes to study we will provide an interpreter.
In addition, I interpret for students on trips related to their courses which could be abroad or in the UK or just to our local Art Gallery. As part of our Deaf Academy, I am also involved with feeder schools and outside agencies with the aim of encouraging prospective Deaf learners to come to Walsall College and raise our profile within the community.
The best part of my job is seeing our Deaf student’s progress and develop the skills to become confident young adults and achieve the necessary qualifications to help them either find employment or progress to Higher Education
