Walsall Council offers a full range of services across the borough. It is vital that the Council keeps up to date with the latest developments in ICT, to ensure the highest quality of service is provided to the people of Walsall.
Following a strategic decision to move over to Windows 7 from Microsoft XP, Walsall Council had a business need to enhance ICT skills of its staff, to keep up with advancing developments.
After undertaking a consultation with Walsall College, the Council were given advice on the best training approach to take. A series of courses were then recommended to up-skill managerial and front line staff across a range of departments, including IT Support Services, Data Centre Server & Storage, Applications Support & Development and Asset Management Team.
All training was delivered by IT specialists in the College’s Microsoft IT Academy and Walsall Council have been so impressed, they will be undertaking more training with the College in the future.
“We usually send staff across the country for specialist training, but we were delighted when we realised Walsall College could run the courses to suit our needs, timescales and price bracket. They even put on a specialist, one-off course which they had never offered before, customised to our training requirements.
Malcolm Metcalfe, Service Support Manager said “Bringing staff up to speed with the latest Microsoft Training has enabled the Council to bring more services in-house, reducing our costs in the process. It has also been good for staff to broaden their skills by working with new technologies and software. We would definitely consider further training with Walsall College’s Microsoft IT Academy in the future. The training team readily provide assistance in niche areas, offering good value for money and quality courses to suit your exact needs.”
Samantha Price, Team Leader of Applications Support and Development commented “There has been a big shift towards web enabled development and I had a team of staff with a background in the old style of programming. The Microsoft IT Academy at Walsall College offered the ideal training solutions as we were able to do a five day course in just four days, maximising the potential of staff and minimising impact on service. The courses opened people’s eyes to the new technology and helped us in our transition to a new way of working.”
