Creating a new business in a recession is tough but when Clive graduated in the 1980’s, it was what he wanted to do. And it was with his passion, drive and vision, that Clive created a successful company developing new build, refurbishment and regeneration schemes across the Midlands region.
The company is currently working on the £50 million Walsall Waterfront development, and has now employed a number of apprentices, from Craftwork and Business Administration to Trainee Quantity Surveyor, to enhance the business further.
The company is dedicated to developing new talent and has taken on a number of craft apprentices, an administration apprentice and a trainee quantity surveyor through Walsall College.
Clive commented: “Engaging with Walsall College was made easy because they understood the type of personnel we wanted and found us the perfect match. “The students have dovetailed into the company very well and continue to train with Walsall College on a weekly basis.
“From an organisational point of view, the benefits have been having motivated apprentices who are getting a good education at the same time. Students get practical skills in the workplace with us, whilst furthering their education at college. I think it is of key importance that companies look to invest in their business and young people by taking on apprentices and seeing what vocational students can offer.”
Lee Fairall, Bricklaying Apprentice added: “I chose to study an apprenticeship because construction is a good industry to get into and I wanted a career. Studying an Apprenticeship gives you a skill, instead of working in a dead end job with no prospects. I enjoy going to different jobs and working on a variety of building projects; you get to do something new everyday.
“An Apprenticeship allows you to learn on the job and get the proper experience. I want to continue my education in the future with a HNC and eventually want to go on to become a Site Manager.”
