YMCA Level 2 Diploma in Sport

Want to kick-start a career in sport?

This course can get you started. Aimed at school leavers, this qualification gives students the introductory skills to start their career, including an instruction to the sport vocation. If university is your goal, the course also prepares for for higher level study.

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to:

  • choose a pathway and units that reflect their career or academic aspirations
  • enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher or further education or onto the NCFE Level 3 Sport qualifications
  • gain and develop essential skills that are valued by employers and higher and further education institutions
  • develop knowledge and understanding of the vocational sector.

4 GCSEs at grades D to G/GCSE grades 3 - 1 (including a curriculum-related subject and Maths and English). Or a Level 1 related qualification.

The next progression from this course is to the NCFE level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching or BTEC level 3 Sport (Performance & Excellence).

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
