Pathways to the Future 1

The course is designed to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to develop a wide range of skills to progress to higher levels of study and to prepare them for adulthood.  The course will include subjects such as English and Maths and other subjects to support students to develop their Independent Living skills, personal and social development and Employability Skills.

No formal entry requirements.  The course is aimed at school leavers and students who have an Education Health and Care Plan (16-24).  Applicants will be required to attend an interview with a course tutor, they may also be required to attend other assessments such as a Support Needs Assessment.  

Where appropriate, there are progression opportunities to higher levels of study at Walsall College within a vocational/career pathway which meets students aspirations.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
