OCR Level 2 Computing (Foundation)

Computing (Foundation) provides a foundation for progression into a more specialised area of Computing, and gives students a strong footing towards employment in the computing industry.

You will be taught about computer systems, business IT, customising software and database design. This will help you gain the knowledge, understanding and skills you need in preparation for employment.

The qualifications also provide career development opportunities for those already in work:

  • Education and training for employees working in IT.
  • Providing opportunities for employees working in IT to achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification.

  • GCSEs at grades D to E /GCSE grades 3 - 2 (including a curriculum-related subject). Or a Level 1 related qualification.
  • Initial assessment results must be a minimum of Entry 3 at both English and Maths.

  • Digital Age Innovation (Software and Web development) Level 3
  • Digital Age Platform (System Support and Networking Administration) Level 3.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
