Multi-skills Construction Crafts - Entry Level 3

This introductry course consists of the basics in the construction crafts and building services including Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Plastering, Tiling. 80% of your time will be spent hands in our purpose built workshops at Green Lane Campus where you will develop your skills under expert guidance. The workshops have been expertly designed and laid out to simulate Construction Industry conditions. 

The other 20% of your time will be spent in the classroom where you will develop your knowledge of the trade by learning the theory that underpins the projects you complete in the workshops.

All materials are supplied by the department for you to complete your training and assessments. Tools will be supplied for you to complete your work to the best possible standard but we encourage all our learners to provide their own so they are job ready and it is an industry requirement.

All our tutors possess a high degree of skills and knowledge gained from their vast experience working in the industry and all are industry qualified.

The tasks and projects you will complete at college grow in complexity and difficulty as you progress, enabling your skills and knowledge to be fully developed and tested to your own abilities.

By interview and record of achievement. No formal entry qualifications are required.
All applicants will undertake an initial assessment to establish their level and will also complete a dexterity test in the form of taster days. This will give you an insight into the course and establish suitability.

You may progress onto a course or an Apprenticeship in a specific construction trade including:-
Diploma Level 1 - Bricklaying
Diploma Level 1 - Carpentry & Joinery
Diploma Level 1 - Painting & Decorating
Diploma Level 1 - Plastering
This will be based upon a satisfactory reference from your L1 Personal Tutor to include professional attitude, attendance, punctuality and performance.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
