Want a career in the aviation industry? Already have experience, but want to develop and further your career?

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Aviation Operations is part of a larger suite of aviation/travel and tourism qualifications, which share the common purpose of helping people to prepare for employment in the aviation/travel and tourism sector at the appropriate level.

The qualification is designed to provide an all-round introduction to the aviation industry.

By the end of the course, you’ll have accredited skills to enter one of the many careers within the industry. These include roles in airports, such as passenger liaison, ramp work, cargo operations and ground handling, along with ‘traditional’ airline jobs including cabin crew and customer service.

You must have one or any of the following:

  • Level 2 qualification in Travel and Tourism or related vocational area.
  • 3 GCSEs at grades C/GCSE grade 4 or above including English Language and/or Maths
  • Prior work experience or a keen desire to work within the aviation sector.

Successful completion of Level 3 can lead to:-

  • Aviation qualifications
  • Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Travel and Tourism Management (Pearson), available at Walsall College.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
